Professor Joaquin Aranda
Joaquín Aranda received the Licentiate degree from the Complutense University of Madrid (1983), and the PhD degree from the UNED (Distance University of Spain) (1989). He served as Teaching Assistant in the Computer Science and Automatic Control Department, in the Complutense University of Madrid. Since 1988 he has been with the Computer Science and Automatic Control Department (Departamento de Informática y Automática) in the UNED where he is currently Full Professor and previously he was Assistant Professor and Associate Professor .
He was Deputy Director of the University School of Computer Science (Escuela Universitaria de Informática ) of UNED (1997-2001), Director of Computer Science High School (Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Informática ) (2001-2005), Head of the Computer Science and Automatic Control Department of UNED (2007-2013), secretary of master "Sistems engineering and control", and since july of 2013 is vice-rector of Technology of UNED. He leads the research group about industrial computing (1997-...).
He is author or co-author of more than 140 publications (including books chapters, papers in journals and conference proceedings).
His scientific activities cover various aspects within the control engineering field: controller design, robust control, computer control, modelling and simulation, and application of control and simulation to high speed craft, marine systems, airplane and robotic.
He take part in 36 research projects relating to these topics (public competitive projects, private company projects, special actions, etc.); in 20 projects he was the main research, coordinator or group leader. He was advisors of eight PhD theses and co-advisor of four PhD theses. Now he is main research of the project “System for surveillance, search and rescue in the sea by means of collaboration of autonomous marine and air vehicles” and advisor of 3 PhD thesis.
